EC set to rule on foreign subsidies.(Brief Article)

The European Parliament approved legislation last month empowering the European Commission to impose duties on non-EU carriers that it determines have received subsidies that create unfair conditions for EU airlines. In the most serious cases, other sanctions, such as restrictions on landing rights, could be imposed. "Following the events of 9/11, the US administration and other governments granted their airlines huge subsidies, distorting ... the transatlantic market and [hurting] the interests of European airlines," the EP stated. …
