US Airways is contemplating asset sales in the face of continued lackluster financial performance, union refusals to consider additional wage and benefit concessions and the arrival of Southwest Airlines at its Philadelphia hub in May. Reportedly on the block are its East Coast Shuttle, the US Airways Express regional jet service and possibly one of its three hubs in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Charlotte.

In a message to staff, Chairman and CEO David Siegel said the company's union leadership has said "they have no interest in learning about the revised business plan or even having discussions with management on work rule and productivity changes," and as a result management will examine "alternatives to meet our financial commitments. …
