Five years ago in A TW: The much-anticipated "nonmerger" merger between Northwest Airlines Corp. and Continental Airlines got under way Nov. 20 as NWA acquired voting control of CO via the purchase of 8.6 million shares of CO Class A common stock held by Air Partners LP. The price: $370 million in cash and 2.6 million shares of NWA stock.--January 1999

10 years ago: Breakdown of the Alcazar alliance over selection of a US partner reflects the increasing difficulties facing Europe's second tier of airlines in deciding whether being aligned in Europe or globally is more important.
