A force in Southeast Asia; Singapore Airlines regional subsidiary Tradewinds uses new 737s in routes to Myanmar and Vietnam.

Singapore-tradewinds is becoming a powerful force on the Southeast Asian regional airline scene. Since last visited BYATW shortly after its commencement of jet operations in 1989 (ATW, 6/89) the Singapore Airlines subsidiary has opened new routes progressively and currently operates 32 flights each week from Singapore to seven destinations: Hatyai, Pattaya and Phuket, Thailand; Kuantan and Pattaya, Malaysia; Yangon, Myanmar and Kaohsi ung, Taiwan. It also flies to Medan, Indonesia on behalf of Singapore Airlines. in addition to these scheduled operations Tradewinds does occasional charters-in May, it had six flights to Xiamen, in the People's Republic of China. Planned for early inauguration are scheduled operations to jakarta and Ho Chi Minh City.

Tradewinds joins Singapore Airlines on the jakarta route, following Sempati's supplementing of Garuda's jakarta-to-singapore flights. …
