Mesaba pilots poised to strike.(Regional News)(Brief Article)

Pilots at Mesaba Airlines, a Regional affiliate of Northwest Airlines, voted to authorize a strike if their union leaders call for a work stoppage. The Air Line Pilots Assn., which represents some 850 Mesaba pilots, petitioned the National Mediation Board for release from mediation, which would trigger a 30-day cooling-off period after which the pilots could strike.

The action came just weeks after the company announced that Northwest may terminate the agreement under which Mesaba leases and operates 36 RJ-85s, leaving the carrier with a fleet of 68 Saab 340s. …
