Qantas in Oct. said its as-yet-unnamed low-cost domestic airline will take to the skies in May as a separate unit with its own brand and aircraft. Airbus is believed to have the inside track to supply up to 23 A320s through mid-2005. Alan Joyce was appointed manager of the operation.

Separately, Qantas unveiled additional details of its previously announced reorganization intended to produce A$1 billion ($691.6 million) in savings over three years. …
