Insurance rates decried; AACO members blast companies for 'crippling' increases in premiums during the Gulf crisis. (Arab Air Carriers Organization, Persian Gulf war)

TRIPOLI-A pleasant surprise met delegates attending the 23d annual general meeting of the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO): The association's staff, headed by Secretary-General Adli Dajani, included in the assembly's documentation a large amount of information relating to member airlines' performances during 1990. It was a surprise because such information has not been available at past AACO AGMS. Also pleasing to the senior executives on hand was the tremendous effort made by host Libyan Arab Airlines to publicize AACO-posters about the meeting were on virtually every wall in the center of the city.

Of the 18 AACO members, only Somali Airlines was not represented in Tripoli, though the chairmen of Iraqi Airways and Kuwait Airways were not present. Nor was there an exchange between the delegations of the two airlines.

However, the effect of the Gulf crisis on the AACO membership was discussed at length. …
