Delta Air Lines will sell 11 737-800s scheduled for delivery in 2005 to an unnamed third party and defer delivery until 2008 of eight additional 737-800s also scheduled to arrive in 2005. The carrier said it expects the move to reduce capital expenditures by about $500 million through 2005. The transaction also includes an option for the third party to purchase up to 10 additional aircraft scheduled for delivery in 2006 and 2007.

Delta will recognize a charge of $26 million, net of tax, in the Dec. quarter as a result of the action. It will take two 777-200s in 2005 and aside from the eight deferrals and 11 sales its delivery schedule from 2005 to 2008 remains unchanged.
