Boeing, Bedek, to offer 747-400 conversions.

Boeing Commercial Aviation Services and Bedek Aviation within weeks of one another announced plans to offer 747-400 passenger-to-freighter conversions. Bedek struck first in late Sept., announcing a program that will provide a converted freighter at a cost of $54-$58 million including aircraft acquisition. List prices for a new 747-400F/-400ERF range between $187.5 million and $214.5 million, according to Boeing's website. Bedek's 747-400 Special Freighter will offer 30-plus main deck container or pallet positions and a side cargo door at the aft of the main deck. Bedek "is confident that the first delivery, of a reconfigured aircraft can take place in the second quarter of 2005."
