A US federal court last month slammed the door on a second attempt by the US Dept. of Justice to prove that American Airlines was guilty of anticompetitive behavior during the mid-to-late 1990s. The lawsuit, originally filed in 1999 by the Clinton administration, alleged that American willingly accepted losses by matching fares and adding capacity in certain city-pairs in order re force new entrants off the routes, after which it raised prices. …
