Air Canada nears labor savings goals. (News Briefs).(Brief Article)

Air Canada reached tentative cost-cutting agreements in May and June with union negotiators that will reduce its annual labor bill by an estimated C$1.1 billion ($802.8 million) if ratified by the memberships. AC did not provide breakdowns for each workgroup, although savings from mainline union employees were put at C$766 million and those at AC Jazz at C$110 million. A further C$120 million will be realized from nonunionized and management ranks, while realignment of the airline into a smaller network is expected to save C$110 million.

The labor savings represent slightly more than half of the C$2. …
