Transportation Safety Board of Canada's final report on the Sept. 2, 1998, crash of Swissair Flight 111 concluded that the fatal fire "most likely started" with an electrical arcing event involving one or more wires belonging to the MD-11's IFE system. The report noted that there were no built-in smoke or fire detection and suppression devices in the area where the fire initiated and propagated, nor were they required by regulation. …
