AA expected to dodge bankruptcy. (News Briefs).

American Airlines was expected to withdraw plans to file for Chapter ii bankruptcy reorganization in the near term after it delayed its filing in order to give the Assn. of Professional Flight Attendants an opportunity to conduct a fast second vote to approve a contract providing for $340 million in pay and benefit reductions and work rule changes. In doing so, the airline went back on two weeks worth of warnings that union members would nor get a second chance if they rejected the tentative accords.

The attendants initially vetoed the contract by a margin of around 500 votes our of a total of more than 19,000 cast. The Allied Pilots Assn. and the Transport Workers Union both reported that membership had ratified the agreements, by margins of 69% and 53. …
