* HRH the Prince of Wales recently attended Hackney Borough to open a new library. The honour of providing a guard to be inspected by His Royal Highness fell to the Clarnico Chemical Works Fire Brigade.

The guard was commanded by Capt G M Horn, Chief Officer of the brigade and consisted of 63 officers and men.

* It has been estimated that the London Fire Brigade used 13.5m gallons of water during firefighting operations in the year 1907. Three quarters of this came from town's mains and only one quarter from the river.

A water board spokesman said that more consideration should be given to the use of river water for firefighting.

* Leicester City Private Fire Brigades Association recently held its annual church parade.

All members of the association attended with the local St John Ambulance Brigade. …
