The German musical world was shocked following a potentially serious fire that broke out in Berliner Philharmonie, the home of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, at the end of May. The fire is thought to have started in the building's roof, and although no one was injured or killed, the venue sustained damage, both to the roof itself and to the concert hall below due to the water used to extinguish the flames. According to reports, the fire also resulted in a blanket of smoke drifting over the city for the rest of the day.
