* A feature of the early editions of FIRE was anonymous articles, and in this issue one such article appeared under the heading 'Origin of fires'. The main thrust of the piece is that carelessness and arson are synonymous. The writer also goes on to suggest somewhat controversially that the working class is more likely to be careless than the upper classes.

* Byfleet Fire Brigade has recently taken delivery of a new 300 gallon per minute Shand Mason steamer. The cost of the appliance was 315 [pounds sterling], which was raised around the town by public subscription.

* Herne Bay District Council has resolved to replace its old manual fire engine with a modern steamer.

* In his editorial comment, the Editor notes that from May until August the number of accidents and fatalities to servants and women due to explosions in oil stoves steadily rises. …
