Albert Leese, QFSM, FIFire E. Chief Fire Officer of Coventry from 1961 until 1974, died on December 28, 2007 at the grand old age of 93.

Albert was born in 1914 in Stoke on Trent. In 1936 he joined the retained service in his home town before joining full time in 1938.

Albert started his career at brigade headquarters in Hanley. After the outbreak of the Second World War, he served in the mobile units which were formed to tackle the fires and destruction caused by successive bombing raids on major cities. Albert was sent to Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. On November 14, 1940 he was in Coventry during one of its heaviest air raids. His commander was killed in the raid. …
