* In his usual outspoken manner Editor of FIRE, Harry Klopper uses his editorial to question the alarming increase in malicious alarm calls currently being received around the country. He notes that during the year ending December 1957 London Fire Brigade responded to nearly 3,000 malicious calls.

* Brighton Fire Brigade will not be replacing or updating its 30 year old street fire alarms.

A spokesman for Brighton Fire Brigade said: "The 999 telephone system is now reliable. We do not need street alarms and the 999 system."

* Lancashire Fire Brigade has recently opened a new fire station at Littleborough. Alderman H Lumley opened the station and warmly congratulated the parading firemen on the invaluable service that they provide for the town. …
