Fuel Pipeline Tragedy.(NIGERIA)(Brief article)

Disaster hit Nigeria in late December, when at least 30 people, many of whom were women and children, were killed during an incident involving an explosion of a ruptured fuel pipeline. The incident--which took place near the country's capital city of Lagos--was yet another of a series of tragedies involving the practice of 'fuel scooping' that has taken place in the country in recent years.

The explosion took place in the early morning in the village of Igbagbon, on a stretch of pipeline that, according to reports, ran through swamp waters in a remote part of the countryside. Eyewitness reports suggested that many of the bodies recovered had been made unrecognisable due to burns that had been sustained, while the bush at the site of the explosion itself was also very badly charred. …
