* It is reported that one of Glasgow Fire Brigade's new petrol-driven appliances has set a record. The appliance arrived at the scene of a fire after having travelled 16 miles at an average speed of 29 mph.

* Merryweather & Sons have just completed two 'Fire Kings' which, it is claimed, are the most powerful steam fire engines ever built. The two appliances will be exported to Shanghai (see photograph).

* Avebury Parish Council (Wiltshire) have sent an order to Merryweather & Sons for a number of leather washers which require replacing on their manual fire engine. The order note indicates that this is the first repair ever carried out on an appliance which was purchased from Merryweather & Sons in 1807. …
