Texas Stricken by Wildfires.(USA)(Brief article)

Wildfires struck the US state of Texas at the end of February, scorching just under 400 square miles of countryside.

The fires were situated mainly in the western part of the state, and either directly affected or threatened to affect several towns, including Robert Lee, Odessa, Silver and Edith. The number of structures and dwellings in the path of the wildfires numbered at least 500, although at time of writing only seven had been destroyed by the fires.

Firefighting efforts in several locations were hampered by environmental conditions--specifically strong winds that at points had reached around 50 miles an hour. According to reports, four firefighters were injured during the crisis when two fire trucks collided headon while trying to avoid a car in Archer County, while a further two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation. …
