Blackpool International Airport's drive to create a fire training centre of excellence for the Northwest has been given a boost with the purchase of a new 400, 000 [pounds sterling] fire training rig.

The new rig was designed and manufactured by Kidde Fire Trainers based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, and enables the airport's 30 man firefighting team to respond to realistic fire training scenarios, by simulating the features of the aircraft that pass through the facility.


The rig is 26 metres long and designed to represent a 737 aircraft at the front and a 767 at the rear. At the same time, one side of the rig has a ATR42 Dash 8 wing profile with propellers and the other side features a 767 wing profile with a replica 767 jet engine. …
