Tunnel closed for traffic collision exercise: one of the major routes through Birmingham city centre was closed late last year for an exercise involving a mock six-car road traffic collision with people trapped.(Operational Assurance)


SIX CREWS TOOK PART IN THE exercise in the Queens way Tunnel,which was designed to test procedures in relation to attendance and approach to the incident, radio communications within the enclosed environment, incident command, scene management, use of rescue equipment and casualty handling.

The exercise was organised with the assistance of Crew Commander Paul Hatton and colleagues from Kings Norton Green Watch. It was undertaken with the full co-operation of Birmingham City Council's Highways Structures and Traffic Management departments. Paramedics, casualty union volunteers and the police were also involved in the exercise, which took place on the south-bound carriage way of the tunnel. …
