November 1906.(Looking Back)

* It is reported that whilst proceeding to a fire call in the City of London the fire engine lost a front wheel. The wheel shot off the axle as the appliance turned sharply. The appliance was seriously damaged but apart from cuts and bruises the crew were uninjured.

* At a recent inquest in Southwark, London, the Coroner asked how much first aid training firemen and police officers are given. On being told the current unacceptably low situation he said "national standards should be introduced for the training for police officers and firemen regarding first aid. There should also be a minimum requirement for carrying first aid equipment on all fire engines".

* Merryweather and Sons have introduced a new fire pump (see photograph) to be called the Ivel. …
