* HM Chief Inspector of Fire Services (Mr Henry M Smith) has submitted his annual report. The Chief Inspector notes that the main problems in his report for 1956 are the same in 1955 and 1954. Manpower shortages in most fire brigades are now critical resignations are at a higher rate, fire station buildings are inadequate and accommodation for firemen drastically requires improving.

* The Home Office has announced that the Civil Defence Corps in England and Wales stands at 328,230 of which 19,342 are in the AFS.

* The training of RAF personnel at the Fire Service Training Centre, Moreton in Marsh, is progressing well. The War Office estimates that approx 500 men are constantly under training. …
