CFOA statement on Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.(Round-Up)

"The Chief Fire Officers' Association condemns the cynical and irresponsible strike action being taking by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) in Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service. By withdrawing vital fire and rescue cover for 16 days, the FBU are using the people of Merseyside as pawns in an attempt to force the fire authority and local managers to comply with their demands.

'The Fire Brigades Union seems determined to confront any aspect of change that it doesn't like and the union conveniently ignores the Trade Union Council guidelines in relation to public safety, consultation and resolving issues. This reckless behaviour is all the more hypocritical at a time when the public feels especially vulnerable to threats from terrorist attack and only serves to demonstrate a total disregard for the safety welfare of the community whilst at the same time couching every change issue as jeopardising public safety. …
