* The Queens Commendation for Brave Conduct has recently been awarded to Sub Officer Thomas M Temple and Fireman Leslie G Kirby for their bravery in saving the live of a child by entering a burning building in the Earls Court district of London. Sub Officer Roger Doyle of Bootle Fire Brigade has also been awarded a Queens Commendation for Brave Conduct for single handedly rescuing two women from a burning house. One of the rescued women subsequently died in hospital.

* Allegations made by certain members of the Isle of Ely Fire Service Committee regarding delays in the brigade responding to fire calls have been roundly denied by the Chief Officer and the Chairman of the Committee. …
