Agency equips maritime firefighting teams with iridium satellite phones.(Product guide)

The United Kingdom's Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has equipped its newly formed firefighting teams with Iridium satellite phones to provide reliable communications when responding to fires on ships in UK coastal waters.

The MCA's Maritime Incident Response Group (MIRG) was formed in April to provide a force of highly trained teams capable of being deployed by helicopter at short notice to fires and other emergencies on ships at sea. The MIRG consists of approximately 700 firefighters based at 15 stations strategically located around the coasts of England and Scotland. It is the UK's first specialised fire and rescue service created specifically for large-scale incidents at sea, and is one of the first of its kind in the world. …
