Disaster City 2006: major flood event.(Disaster City)

Following a week of unprecedented flooding covering huge expanses of England, this year's Disaster City scenario will concentrate on a resultant landslide as the waters recede. The UK Fire and Rescue Service will showcase the full range of equipment, training and expertise as they undertake multiple extrications: from mud rescue to USAR and rope rescue utilising air support.

THIS YEAR'S DISASTER CITY demonstration raises the bar on emergency rescue operations, switching from the terror threat featured at last year's Fire Show, to the consequences of climate changing impacting vast areas of the UK.

The UK Fire and Rescue Service has undergone sweeping changes in training and equipment provisions since the New Dimension project, yet the public know little of the vast array of response capabilities of which fire responders are capable.

Disaster City is also a perfect opportunity to explore the incident command implications of a truly national catastrophe, where far reaching implications go beyond multi-agency co-ordination to include the possibility of international mutual-aid. …
