Joining forces to promote fire safety in foster homes.(News)

Fire and social services will be working together to promote fire safety in foster homes across the UK following the success of a regional pilot scheme in Essex.

Fire Safety for Foster Families, a leaflet giving potentially life-saving advice on making foster homes fire safe, is to be distributed free of charge to every fire service in the UK. It has been developed by Southend foster carer David Hadjicostas, a serving firefighter with Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, and Heather Flinders from Essex fostering service, for use by the social care workforce.

The aim is that social workers carrying out visits to foster homes will be able to give informed advice about fire safety, and if necessary refer foster carers to the fire service for more detailed help and resources. …
