New Deputy Chief Fire Officer appointed.(PEOPLE PROFILE)

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has appointed lain Bathgate as its new Deputy Chief Fire Officer. He takes over from Alan Holmes who has retired after 42 years with the service.

Mr Bathgate, 48, lives in Washington and has served with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service for 28 years, initially as a firefighter and junior officer where he served at stations in Hebburn, Wallsend, Gateshead, Tunstall and Sunderland. After working for over 13 years on fire stations, he went on to work as a service training officer and as a legislative fire safety officer in Sunderland and South Tyneside.
