Successful campaign drives down house fires.(News)

The number of house fires reduced dramatically during the World Cup, following a recent targeted fire safety campaign by Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

"Across the county there was a 25 per cent reduction in house fires, compared to figures taken from the same period over the past four years," said John Parker, from the Fire and Rescue Community Safety team.

"This is a considerable reduction and reflects the work of the community safety team and local stations in engaging the public to promote fire safety in the home.

"Most matches were held between 1700-1900, and 2000-2200--times when most people cook and a peak time for house fires. …
