Every year in Lincolnshire RAF Waddington stages a major international air show attracting over 25,000 visitors for each of its two days.

Any event of this nature has the potential to be hazardous and so a Silver Command structure is a regular feature of the show's planning. This year Silver Command faced a new challenge but one, with a little lateral thinking they were able to successfully support and resolve.

The weekend weather saw the show bathed in glorious sunshine. And by the second day temperatures were soaring to 31[degrees]C in the shade--and at an air show shade is something that is in short supply, with the added problem of heat reflecting off the runways. …
