Good practice in arson prevention: a seminar was recently held on fire investigation: lessons learned. FIRE attended to see if this was the case.(Seminar Report)

THE CHAIR OF THE EVENT was DCO Hike Hagen from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, who was joined by a panel and speakers including Fire Minister Angela Smith and Jane Milne, Vice Chair, Arson Control Forum.

Fire Minister

The Minister stated that: "It is only by working together and sharing experience that we can improve the quality of life for people in our communities". She said she was very pleased to see such a cross-section of key agencies represented--police, Fire and Rescue Service, the insurance industry, as well as many others contributing to arson prevention. "That, in itself, is an excellent sign of progress" she said.

The theme of this year's conference was fire investigation and as the Minister said: "I hope you will gain some valuable insights into that as well as finding out the latest on what we are doing to tackle arson. There is no doubt that it is one of the most damaging problems in our communities because it attacks the confidence of residents and because the effects of fire can be so far-reaching. …
