Firefighter has made outstanding efforts for young people and raised millions for charity

The Deputy Chief Fire Officer of East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) is to retire at the end of June.

DCFO Len Richards, aged 59, has had a distinguished career spanning over 39 years. He has spearheaded major community safety initiatives, helped to fight countless blazes and raised millions of pounds for charity. Len has been a keen supporter of youth activities within the Fire Service including fire cadet schemes and the Prince's Trust Volunteers Team.

Len, who lives in Westham near Pevensey, has been with ESFRS since 1997, when he joined as Assistant Chief Fire Officer. …
