Danny Munden of Avon Fire and Rescue Service will be taking part in the Polar

Race 2007. This race from Resolute Bay, Nunavut, Canada, the second most northerly community in the World to the Magnetic North Pole, involves pulling a 70 kg sled over 350 miles of the most inhospitable terrain on the planet.

This bi-annual event run by Jock Wishart, David Hempleman-Adams and former London firefighter Simon Marshall, is billed as the toughest race on earth and will stretch competitors to the limits in temperatures of -40[degrees]C for up to five weeks. Competitors spend 18 months training with the Polar Race team and a further week of acclimatisation prior to the race to ensure they can survive the brutal conditions. …
