* The annual competition for the West Midlands District of the National Fire Brigades Union was held recently at Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Prior to the opening of the events the brigades assembled at Cheltenham Fire Station and headed by the District Union Brigade Band, marched through the town. The events were witnessed by hundreds of spectators with teams taking part from as far afield as Chipping Norton, Malvern, Swindon and Birmingham.

* In a recent report by the Chief of the Exeter City Fire Brigade it has been noted that in the year ending June 1906 the brigade attended 71 emergency calls which was a decrease of seven on the previous year. Thirteen of the 71 calls were to chimney fires, seven calls were receive to assist neighbouring brigades beyond the city boundary. …
