College hosts research event of the year: the Fire Service College will celebrate the 11th anniversary of its annual conference on Fire-Related Research and Developments (RE06) on November 15-16, with a special focus on equality and diversity and customer focussed leadership in the emergency services. A special pre-conference event will also be held on leading improvement through leadership on Nov 14.(Conference Preview)

IT ALL STARTED WITH A Research Event on November 28, 1996 when the college held a small scale meeting with invited participants to test out an idea. The idea was that there would be interest in and benefits from bringing together people from the Fire Service, the fire industry, and universities and government research institutions who were research active and/or interested in the application of research in the broad area of fire, protection, rescue and emergency response.

The response was very positive and the college was encouraged to develop the concept and to hold a meeting in 1997, open to anyone interested. Over the last 11 years, the event has developed in size and scope and the 2006 meeting will once again be very wide ranging.

Conference Format

The format has developed over the years but still retains the core of keynote speakers in plenary sessions with parallel sessions of very wide scope with operational and technical contributions balancing input on legal, social, behavioural and managerial issues. …
