* In an Editorial Comment, as straight to the point as ever, FIRE Editor Harry Klopper notes: "This year promises to be an important one in the post war history of our Service. It seems, at long last, that many long outstanding problems are to be investigated and hopefully put to rights. The new Duty Hours Regulation is a step in the right direction, as is the offer by the National Joint Council regarding pay.

* An RAF jet fighter recently crashed into houses in Wadhurst, East Sussex. Four people were killed, two of the aircraft crew and two on the ground. In this report CFO W Holland notes that of the 60 Firemen who attended, only four (excluding officers) were wholetime. …
