A new scheme encouraging children to refer older and vulnerable people for free home fire safety checks will soon be available for London Fire Brigade borough commanders to use in schools across the capital.

Supporting the brigade's 'Be Safe and Sound' campaign, which was launched in June last year to promote free home fire safety checks, the new scheme 'We're In Safe Hands' or WISH is designed specifically for primary school children.

The WISH scheme has been given to all 33 borough commanders in London who will decide when and where it should be used within their borough, with the aim of increasing home fire safety checks.

WISH is a fire safety presentation that is designed to be delivered by firefighters when they visit schools. …
