Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is hosting a series of intensive training courses covering fireworks incident and explosion investigation.

In 2004, Merseyside set up the UK's first dedicated joint operations team to monitor, track and tackle firework misuse. The Firework Incident Research Safety Team is made up of members of Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police and they have had an immediate and dramatic effect.

In its first year, firework misuse on Merseyside dropped by 79 per cent and in the last 12 months this has reduced by a further 38 per cent, with more than 35 tonnes of illegal fireworks taken out of the criminal system.

Now the team will be sharing their skills and information during a three-day course at the Fire Service College. …
