APRIL 1981

* Sir Kenneth Holland, recently retired as HM Chief Inspector, has been invested as a Freeman of the City of London.

* The Nat West Tower has changed the skyline of the City of London. It is expected that when fully occupied the building will contain 2,500 workers. The fire protection installed in the building will be computer controlled from a central control room. It is anticipated that this will be the way forward for fire protection methods in tall buildings in the future.

* The Association of County Councils (ACC) is seeking a meeting with the Home Secretary to press its objections to a national review of standards of fire cover. The ACC believes that such a review can only be carried out at a local level within individual authorities. The ACC has also condemned a report by CACFOA which appears to suggest the nationalisation of the Fire Service. …
