Supporting UK disaster response: REST UK stands for Response Emergency Stress Team, and is Britain's only Emergency Response Massage Team (ERMT). The aim of REST UK is to provide a unique respite to those working within the emergency services during a disaster/critical incident.(Support Service)

REST UK WAS FORMED in September 2002, after its three founder members had worked in New York City with a team from North Carolina, known as Carolina Emergency Response Massage Team (CERMT). My colleagues and I worked with CERMT on two occasions in New York giving chair massages to the emergency workers at Ground Zero and Staten Island. We also visited many firehouses and the Port Authority Police Departments at New York City's airports.

Emergency Response Massage Teams originated in the USA shortly after the Oklahoma bombing in 1995. ERMTs are very successful in the US and have often been requested by FEMA. There is now an international ERMT known as Emergency Response Massage International (ERMI), and is based in America. REST UK is linked with ERMI. ERMI's most recent involvement has been in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. …
