Fire deaths continue to fall.(News)

The latest national fire statistics covering the 12 month period up to June 30, 2005 continue to show a fall in the total, number of fire related deaths--now the lowest since 1958.

The Fire Statistics Monitor is published quarterly by the Office of Deputy Prime Minister and includes provisional figures on fires, fire deaths and injuries, and false alarm calls.

Key statistics in today's monitor include:

The UK fire and rescue service attended 858,000 fires or false alarms (691,000 in England) in the 12-month period up to 30 June 2005--16 per cent less than in the previous year. The total, number of fires attended in the UK fell by 25 per cent to 416,000. …
