Buncefield blaze re-think on HSE hazard planning.(News)

The senior safety expert leading the investigation into the Buncefield fuel depot fire has not ruled out the possibility of changes to the HSE's planning advice for development near similar sites, like Total's huge oil depot in Hertfordshire which was designated as a top category major hazard site.

Following the fire, which took three days to bring under control last December the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) has called for an investigation and report into to the explosion and fire which destroyed the depot and wrecked and damaged nearby homes and businesses.

A joint investigation is being carried out by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Environment Agency. …
