Authorities investigate closer working between fire services.(News)

Members of Devon Fire and Rescue Authority and Somerset County Council have agreed to investigate further the benefits of the two organisations working more closely together.

An options appraisal completed at the end of last year concluded that there is the potential for significant benefits in closer working between Devon and Somerset fire and rescue services. Somerset County Council's Executive Board and Devon Fire and Rescue Authority have met separately and agreed that a business case be prepared which will examine in far greater detail, including financial and risk analysis, the three options:

* Status quo (do the minimum);

* Expand collaboration; and,

* Full combination into a single combined fire and rescue authority and fire and rescue service under the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004. …
