Everyday Heroes--the 30 year story of Strathclyde Fire Brigade has recently been published.

The book is an exciting, but also poignant, account of major incidents and firefighting developments since the brigade was established in 1975.

Everyday Heroes contains dramatic photographs and features interviews with many brigade members, past and present. The book looks at the problems that were encountered in bringing five fire brigades together to form the largest UK brigade outside London. At the heart of Strathclyde was Glasgow, the notorious "tinderbox city", whose full-time firefighters were among the best trained and equipped in the world. In many rural and island communities, however, the focal fire brigade often comprised a handful of volunteers and the fire station was a garden shed where a hose and stirrup pump could be stored. …
