Wallace and gromit go up in smoke: more than 90 firefighters tackled a braze which hit national headlines and was perhaps one of the biggest in recent years for Avon Fire and Rescue Service.(Incident Report)

CREWS WERE CALLED AT 0529 on Monday October 10 to a Victorian warehouse in Silverthorne Lane, St Philips, Bristol.

When crews arrived on the scene, they found 100ft high flames coming out of the building. The severity of the fire caused structural problems, forcing the firefighters to fight the blaze from outside the structure. Ten pumps and four aerial appliances, including one from Avon's colleagues in Gloucester, were used to bring the fire under control.

The roof collapsed during the blaze and it was only after crews had been on the scene for a couple of hours that it emerged that the world-famous company Aardman Animations had been one of several firms using the building for storage, Aardman later confirmed that not only had props and scenery from many of its films been destroyed, but also much-loved characters such as Chas and Morph, the Chicken Run chickens and the Creature Comforts, stars. …
