Cumbria's disappointment.(News)

Bernard Dolan, Chief Fire Officer of Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, has reacted with disappointment to the letter from Jim Fitzpatrick MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary, Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, regarding regional fire controls, which was published in the Times and Star on Friday August 26, 2005.

'In what is a very difficult situation, I can only conclude that Mr Fitzpatrick has been badly advised in responding in the way that he has. The North West Regional Control Centre is a sensitive issue in Cumbria and I do not believe that Mr Fitzpatrick's letter has fully addressed the concerns that the public may have. More worryingly it may have undermined public confidence in the excellent response that Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service currently provides to emergency incidents across the county. …
