September 1930: 75.(Looking Back)

* The following was reported in the Portsmouth Evening News late August 1930. 'The personnel of Portsmouth Fire Brigade were overstretched last night when two fires occurred at the same time. Fortunately for the brigade neither fire was considered serious. Had one of the incidents proved protracted it may have been necessary to call for assistance from outside the city. Both crews attending the incidents were understaffed, despite the fact that firemen on leave volunteered for duty.'

* FIRE of September 1930 opens with a long article by Mr N A Anfilogoff JP, entitled 'Fire Protection at Petrol Depots'. The author begins his article by saying that he does not intend to advocate any firefighting procedures simply to advocate fire precautions. …
